Kanye con 7 nominaciones; Adele, Mars, Foos con 6

Adele consiguió seis nominaciones al Grammy el miércoles, incluyendo a grabación, canción y álbum del año, pero la cantautora del disco más vendido del 2011 en Estados Unidos, "21", no fue la artista más postulada de la noche. Y esa no fue la única sorpresa.

Kanye West obtuvo siete candidaturas, entre ellas a canción del año por "All of the Lights". Pero su disco "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy", calificado por muchos críticos como el mejor del 2010, no se incluyó en el rubro de mejor álbum, y sus demás nominaciones quedaron relegadas a los apartados de rap.

Otras omisiones notables en las categorías principales fueron el fenómeno de la música country Taylor Swift y el veterano cantante melódico Tony Bennett.

Bruno Mars y los Foo Fighters empataron con Adele con seis postulaciones cada uno, incluyendo a álbum del año. El cantautor folk indie adorado por la crítica Bon Iver se apuntó cuatro candidaturas, dos en las prestigiosas categorías de grabación y canción del año; y el astro de la música electrónica Skrillex quizás dio la mayor sorpresa con sus cinco nominaciones, entre ellas a mejor artista nuevo.

Las nominaciones se anunciaron tras un concierto especial de la Academia de la Grabación que se transmitió en vivo desde el Teatro Nokia de Los Angeles. El evento de una hora contó con las actuaciones de nominados prominentes como Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj y the Band Perry.

Aun cuando Adele no obtuvo el máximo número de candidaturas, consiguió las más importantes: "21", su lúgubre disco sobre una relación sentimental fallida que produjo superéxitos como la balada "Someone Like You", se medirá por el gramófono al álbum del año. "Rolling in the Deep", que pasó siete semanas en el No. 1 este verano, fue nominado tanto a grabación como a canción del año. Sólo ella y Mars obtuvieron candidaturas en estas tres categorías.

Entre los postulados a grabación del año están Iver con su balada "Holocene", Mars con la balada "Grenade", Mumford & Sons con "The Cave" y Katy Perry con el himno edificante "Firework". Por el premio a la canción del año, que honra a los compositores del tema, están también "The Cave", "Grenade", "Holocene" y "You and I" de Lady Gaga.

La categoría de mejor álbum fue notable tanto por sus exclusiones como por sus inclusiones. Lady Gaga obtuvo su tercera nominación consecutiva por "Born This Way", mientras que los veteranos rockeros de Foo Fighters fueron postulados por "Wasting Light", junto con el primer álbum de Mars, "Doo-Wops & Hooligans", y el sensual disco dance de Rihanna "Loud".

Afuera quedaron favoritos como Bennett, de 85 años, que se convirtió en el artista de mayor edad en debutar en el número 1 cuando su álbum "Duets II" salió al mercado este año; así como la exitosa colaboración de Jay-Z and y West "Watch The Throne". Pero el mayor desaire quizás fue hacia Swift, que ganó la categoría en el 2010 y a quien algunos críticos consideraban la favorita por "Speak Now", que ha vendido 3,7 millones de copias. Sí consiguió tres nominaciones, incluyendo a mejor álbum de música country.

Como era de esperarse Calle 13 consiguió la noche del miércoles una nueva nominación a los premios Grammy con "Entren los que quieran", el disco con el que arrasó a principios de noviembre en la entrega de los Latin Grammy.

"Se lo dedicamos a todas las personas que hacen cualquier tipo de arte, sin miedo a sentir, sin miedo a expresar, sin miedo a regalar y con muchas ganas de aprender", expresó su vocalista René "Residente" Pérez tras el anuncio, en un comunicado. "No nos hace falta ningún tipo de reconocimiento de parte de un gobierno que no es reconocido ni respetado por nadie a nivel internacional", añadió sin especificar.

El dúo puertorriqueño de música urbana fue postulado a mejor álbum de pop, rock o música urbana en el apartado latino junto con otro ganador del Latin Grammy: el grupo mexicano Maná, cuya producción "Drama y luz" se impuso hace tres semanas con la estatuilla al mejor disco de rock.

También compiten el grupo venezolano de música alternativa La Vida Bohème ("Nuestra") y dos actos que no figuraron este año en los Latin Grammy: el cantautor pop mexicano Gustavo Galindo ("Entre la ciudad y el mar") y el grupo funk venezolano Los Amigos Invisibles ("Not So Commercial").

Y estos no son los únicos artistas que la Academia de la Grabación consideró, pero la Latina no. Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea y Mariachi Los Arrieros del Valle fueron nominados a mejor álbum regional mexicano o tejano por "Órale" y "Amor a la música", respectivamente; Michael Salgado es candidato a mejor álbum de banda o música norteña con "No vengo a ver si puedo... si por que puedo vengo"; y en la categoría de música tropical lo mismo ocurre con dos de tan sólo tres candidatos: Edwin Bonilla ("Homenaje a los rumberos") y José Rizo's Mongorama ("Mongorama").

El tercer candidato en este rubro es el músico cubano Israel López "Cachao", fallecido en marzo del 2008 y cuya última presentación en vivo, "The Last Mambo", salió al mercado en abril y ganó el Latin Grammy al mejor álbum tropical tradicional.

La lista de nominados al Grammy, anunciada tras un concierto de la Academia en el Teatro Nokia de Los Angeles, también obvió a consentidos de la música latina como la estrella colombiana Shakira, el cantautor venezolano Franco De Vita y Alex, Jorge y Lena (español, colombiano y cubana, respectivamente), todos ganadores en los Latin Grammy. Y postulados prominentes como Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias o Luis Fonsi tampoco figuraron.

Por el Grammy al álbum regional mexicano o tejano también se medirán Pepe Aguilar ("Bicentenario"), Paquita la del Barrio ("Eres un farsante") y Joan Sebastian ("Huevos rancheros"), más no La Arrolladora Banda El Limón de René Camacho o Little Joe & La Familia, ambos ganadores del Latin Grammy.

Salgado se disputará el premio al mejor álbum de banda o música norteña con El Güero y su Banda Centenario ("Estaré mejor"), Intocable ("Intocable 2011"), Los Tucanes de Tijuana ("El árbol") y los veteranos Tigres del Norte ("Los Tigres del Norte and Friends - MTV Unplugged"), también laureados recientemente.

Este año, en medio de protestas, la Academia de la Grabación recortó el número de categorías de 109 a 78, dejando fuera latin jazz, fusionando algunos rubros de música latina -que se redujeron de siete el año pasado a cuatro- y uniendo hombres y mujeres en algunas otras que antes se premiaban por separado.

En agosto, cuatro músicos de latin jazz que incluyeron a Mark Levine y Bobby Sanabria demandaron a la Academia de la Grabación en Nueva York argumentando que la eliminación de la categoría los afectaba y exigiendo que la restituyeran.

No lo lograron, pero el miércoles dos de los cinco postulados a mejor álbum de jazz para un conjunto orquestal fueron latinos: Arturo O'Farrill & The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra ("40 Acres And A Burro") y Miguel Zenón ("Alma Adentro: The Puerto Rican Songbook").

Con 21 gramófonos dorados acumulados, entre Grammys y Latin Grammys, Calle 13 tiene todas las de ganar.

"Entren los que quieran" incluye 12 temas en los que "Residente" habla sin tapujos sobre censura, diferencias socioeconómicas y política en títulos como "Calma pueblo", "Baile de los pobres", "Vamo' a portarnos mal" y "Latinoamérica", la que el letrista y vocalista considera su obra cumbre y por la cual el dúo obtuvo los Latin Grammy a mejor canción y mejor grabación del año.

Es su cuarta producción desde que debutó en la escena musical con un álbum homónimo en el 2005 y podría traerle un tercer Grammy, premio que ya ganó en 2008 con "Residente o Visitante" y en 2010 con "Los de atrás vienen conmigo".

La ceremonia de los premios Grammy, en su 54a edición, se realizará el 12 de febrero en Los Angeles.AP
